Sterlite enables 90 women with vocational expertise

The Jeewan Jyoti Institute empowers the under-privileged rural women by providing learning and skill development opportunities for their financial independence

Sterlite Technologies, which is building efficiencies through its end-to-end telecom products, solutions & software offerings, today said its CSR initiative– Jeewan Jyoti, awarded 90 women students with vocational training certificates at a valedictory function organised here.

Among the 90 students felicitated, 81 students were awarded the passing certificates issued by the Maharashtra State Board of Vocational Education (MSBVE) for completing the six-month vocational training courses and nine were presented the certificates for two-month course in Basic Tally ERP 9, which will enable them to secure opportunities in the field of accounting.

S K Hedge, Founder – Hedge Tailoring Institute, Pune and Bagheshwari Ponkshe, Head – Gramin Vikas, Jnana Prabodhini, Pune were the chief guests while Shrikant Deshpande, Branch Manager, State Bank of India, Ambavane, Sneha Nitsure, Co-ordinator, Jnana Prabodhini, Pune, and Pradnya Patil, Founder, Omkar Enterprises graced the occasion.

Highlighting the role of Jeewan Jyoti in empowering women, Mrs. Jyoti Agarwal, Founder, Jeewan Jyoti, said, “Holistic empowerment of women is our primary objective. Jeewan Jyoti aids them with the necessary skills and knowledge to make them employable and builds their self-confidence. This programme has seen immense success as some of our students have set out to start their own ventures. The success rate of all our courses has been 100% which showcases teacher-student engagement levels and brings in a positive attitude towards learning and development among the rural women.”

With technical education gaining importance due to increasing demand for skilled and semi-skilled resources, Jeewan Jyoti conducts vocational trainings on basic beauty culture, computer operations, data entry, tailoring, fashion designing, English speaking and nursing. The Jeewan Jyoti Institute has impacted the lives of the women in and around 40 villages near Ambavane, in Bhor and Velhe Taluka of Pune region and improved their socio-economic status through vocational training and skill development. These courses have equipped women from rural India with the requisite skills to achieve financial independence and become a responsible citizen.
