A new approach to evaluate macro and microbending sensitivity of single mode optical fiber

Multiple bends in fiber contribute significantly to the increase in power loss in optical fiber cables. Bending losses are influenced by different optical parameters like Mode Field Diameter (MFD), Cut-off wavelength and MAC value. This paper highlights the results of a series of tests conducted, to determine the power loss of matched clad step index Single Mode Optical Fiber (SMF). The effect of MFD, Cut-off wavelength and MAC value have been studied with various macro and micro bend testing techniques. The testing techniques and relevant parameters, which effectively measure the bend sensitivity of SMF, have been identified...
Dynamic fatigue behavior of high strength silica optical fiber was studied as a function of relative humidity of draw environment. Fibers were drawn with graphite induction heating furnace and controlled temperature, relative humidity and particle count of the draw environment i.e. drawing furnace to coating application point. Dynamic fatigue of the drawn fibers were measured with two different modes of loading, tensile & two-point bending. Draw humidity was found to have a decided impact on dynamic fatigue measured by tensile loading...
India is gearing up for implementation of 100 Smart Cities and the country will have its first ever Smart City by 2020, which is all set to turn the worlds attention to us. To live up to the credibility we earned after the launch of Mangalyaan and in our efforts to scale new heights, it is important to carefully consider every step in the implementation of smart cities.
As telecom operators across the world ramp up FTTx deployment, a cost-effective solution that can boost deployment speed is the need of the hour. This paper describes a pre-connectorized solution to deploy fiber in Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) and its advantages over field connectorized solutions i...
With the adoption of capital intensive 10-100 Gb/s transmission systems in many emerging markets such as India, the requirement of a predictable delivered OSNR in the outside plant is of paramount importance. In such economies, intense construction activity and poor installation practices lead...
Acceptance sampling is one of the oldest aspects of quality assurance and is used primarily for incoming and outgoing lot-by-lot quality assurance. Sampling is generally less expensive than hundred-percent inspection and in case of destructive it is the only way. It also leads to less handling of...
Introduction Zero stress aging has been a topic of research and interest in understanding the mechanical behavior of optical fiber during the expected lifetime. Several studies have been carried out to understand the effect of aging on fiber strength properties. The aging behavior of fiber in...
