Hailing from Khodad village in Maharashtra and a middle-class background, Nikita is a simple village girl living with a family of 5. Her father is farmer and do farming for a living and taking care of his family. All her siblings have studied till 12th standard and are doing farming. Nikita, a quiet and thoughtful girl, had grown up in this village, surrounded by her family and the familiar sights and sounds of rural life. Nikita came from a middle-class family. Her parents worked hard to provide for their children, and they took great pride in the fact that all their children had completed their basic school education. This was considered a significant achievement in their community. Nikita’s siblings had settled into comfortable routines, helping with the family’s small farm or taking up jobs in nearby towns. 

But Nikita was different. She had always been curious, with a mind that wandered beyond the horizon of her village. After completing 12th standard in science, dreamt of bigger things in life. Nikita found herself at a crossroads. Her family expected her to follow the same path as her siblings, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something more out there for her. She dreamed of a life where she could make a difference for herself, her community, and beyond. But in Khodad, dreams of that magnitude seemed almost impossible.

While helping her mother in the kitchen one day, Nikita overheard a conversation between her father and a visiting neighbour. They were talking about Jeewan Jyoti, an organisation that had transformed the lives of many women in nearby villages. The neighbour spoke of how Jeewan Jyoti offered educational programs, vocational training, and the chance to learn skills that could open doors to new opportunities.

Nikita enrolled for the program

Nikta enrolled for a comprehensive MS-Office course at Jeewan Jyoti. In January 2024, Nikita’s hard work paid off! After completing the MS Office course, she landed an interview for the prestigious MFS BBA program at MKCL (Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited).

Nikita wasn’t alone in this exciting opportunity. Nine other Jeewan Jyoti students interviewed, but Nikita’s talent and determination shone through. After two rounds of interviews, she secured a coveted spot at the Multi-university company in Bavdhan, Pune.

MKCL, established in 2001 by the Government of Maharashtra, is a pioneer in integrating Information Technology into education. Their MFS BBA program offers a unique blend of classroom learning and real-world work experience. Partnering with renowned open universities like IGNOU and YCMOU, MKCL’s program empowers students to earn degrees while gaining valuable industry experience.

Initially, the prospect of moving to Pune caused hesitation. However, with Jeewan Jyoti’s unwavering support and guidance, Nikita embraced this life-changing opportunity.

Jeewan Jyoti gave Nikita the confidence to fly high

Since March 2024, Nikita has been juggling her BBA degree with a fulfilling job as an E-content developer, where she even gets to explore video editing! The best part? She receives a handsome stipend of Rs. 8500/- per month, which will continue throughout the 3-year program. Upon completion, Nikita will have a degree and 3 years of valuable experience under her belt, all while earning a steady income.
