Multi-Core testbed launched at IIT Madras

STL has joined forces with IIT Madras to launch India’s first live Multi-Core Fibre (MCF) testbed—a 5 km blend of 12 MCF and 12 standard fibres, running through both aerial and buried routes. This plug-and-play infrastructure is enabling startups, academia, and industry to test, validate, and co-create next-gen optical tech.
From Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) to AI-powered networks, this testbed unlocks use cases that will define India’s telecom leap—from 5G to 6G and beyond.
It is a collaboration supported by the Department of Telecommunications’ (DoT) Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF).

STL’s Multi-Core Fibre Cables: Quantum-Safe Bandwidth for the AI Era

STL’s Multi-Core Fibre (MCF) portfolio is revolutionizing how networks scale capacity and security — multiplying bandwidth without expanding duct space, and enabling quantum-grade encryption to protect the most sensitive data. Our field-proven MCF solutions support AI, 5G/6G, and hyperscale data centers with 3 powerful cable variants:
Armored MCF Cable – Ruggedized for underground or harsh environments requiring durability alongside ultra-high capacity.
Uni-tube ADSS MCF Cable – Self-supporting aerial solution combining ease of deployment with multi-core performance.
Hybrid MCF Cable – Innovative build combining 12 Multicore Fibres (4 cores each) with 12 Single-Core Fibres, seamlessly bridging new and legacy networks.

T
Use Cases & Benefits:

  • Supports hyperscale data centers with multi-terabit capacity for AI workloads.

  • Enables quantum-safe communication with Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) for defense, financial, and critical infrastructure networks.

  • Optimizes metro, backhaul, and access networks, reducing time, cost, and space requirements.

  • Delivers ultra-low-latency, secure connectivity — empowering the AI, cloud, and 5G/6G revolution.

With STL’s MCF cables, future-ready networks can transmit more and secure more — transforming how the world connects and protects data.
At the core of its innovation are the 12F intermittently bonded ribbons, which allow for mass fusion splicing while maintaining the handling benefits of a non-ribbonized cable. Optimized for deployment in high-capacity metro and long-haul networks, this cable seamlessly supports both air-blown and pull-through duct installations—providing unmatched versatility for network engineers.

  • Facilitates faster deployment in high-capacity metro and long-haul networks.

  • Supports both air-blown and pull-through duct installations.

  • Engineered for backbone builds where space and speed are critical.

5G Fixed Wireless Access Monetisation Surges

According to the June 2025 Ericsson Mobility Report, Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) is becoming increasingly attractive for communication service providers (CSPs) worldwide. More than half of CSPs offering FWA now provide speed-based monetization options, a jump from 40% in June 2024 to 51% in June 2025. This growth is driven by the adoption of 5G, with global 5G subscriptions expected to surpass 2.9 billion by the end of 2025. By 2030, 5G networks are forecast to handle 80% of global mobile traffic.
